Mixed Media Artist

Carl Anderson is a multidisciplinary artist whose work fuses painting, collage, writing, and sculpture into deeply personal narratives about memory, loss, and the systems that shape our lives. After two decades in education and years away from the studio, his practice was reignited through grief, love, and a relentless need to create—resulting in a body of work that blends autobiography with cultural critique. His signature collage technique layers photographs, found imagery, and text into richly constructed surfaces that challenge viewers to navigate multiple truths at once, while his writing—most notably Perfect Day—mirrors this process through fragmented, cinematic storytelling. Drawing on postmodern principles like juxtaposition, recontextualization, and the interplay of image and meaning, Anderson’s work explores themes of identity, faith, vice, and transformation, ultimately asking what remains when life is broken apart and reassembled into something new.
